I mixed up a mild batch of 2,4-D in a hand held sprayer and use it around my house in the city and I don't really understand why more people don't do that.
Of course you have to be careful of drift with flowers and bushes around but if you can get it close to the ground and keep it where you want it it will do just as good of a job on broadleaves around the house as it does in hayfields
