Which clutch..?? Most WD's came with a 6 spring pressure plate on the engine (Foot) clutch.. Relacements should be the 9 spring pressure plate for the WD-45.. The clutches should kill the engine in 2nd gear, for sure.. I always preferred to abuse the foot clutch, if I had a choice, but never really had trouble with either.. Normal plow on our WD-45's are 4x14 semi-mounted..ALL tires Loaded and a RR iron across the front.. Sometimes a dual on the left side..if the ground is soft.. Not uncommon to need to help pull the hand clutch back, just to keep the front closer to the ground...ALL spring shims are removed on the Lower hitch spring bolts, to help compress that hitch spring all it will, too.. Great Fun, every time..!!
