Bales are 25-35 pounds. They get some quirks. Tax free fuel, about 200 bucks an acre a year for the property owned/rented, some more based on what they do/don't do with it. The grass has to be cut anyway so it's just extra money (minus time etc). They don't have animals to feed for a few years now but still have all the farm equipment. Property is long since paid for (newer part of the house and a big chunk of the barn was built in 1780 something). Property tax is real cheap in this area.
