Couple of fields have a mix of grass and alfalfa that a guy cuts and feeds fresh to his cattle. While it was so dry, the alfalfa was the only thing that stayed green and grew a little. As soon as it rained, the stuff shot right up and is almost knee high now.
I have about 2 acres that is on a bit of a hill that had alfalfa but is pretty much thinned out. How is it replanted? Is it possible to plant again without ruining the grass that is there??? Good harrowing and overseed maybe? What time of year to do it? Would be a nice treat for the mares nursing babies and in good grass times the neighbor could take what I don't need for his cows.
