The IH engines that need low ash oil are the last version of gasoline engines. These are the C157, C175, and C200 four cylinder engines and the C221, C263, C282, and C301 six cylinder engines. The reason for using low ash oil in them is to cut down on carbon build up on the exhaust valve stems. The carbon can cause the valve to hang open and under heavy load will lead to burned valves.
When looking for a low ash oil look for one that has .5% or less ash content.
