We had a 100th birthday party for my grandmother on Sunday afternoon at her church's fellowship hall. Mamaw's birthday was actually in March, but she was on her "winter vacation" in Texas with my uncle and his wife then.
We had a great turnout...I'd estimate upwards of 200 people. Mamaw waved to everyone when she thanked them for singing "Happy Birthday" to her and prepared to cut the cake.
Afterwards, the family got together for some group photographs on the church steps, much as we did 20 years ago for her 80th birthday. Then after the fellowship hall was cleaned up, we all descended on a cousin's home next to the golf course for the town's annual fireworks show.
Mamaw said that when it was all over, she had a wonderful time and thoroughly enjoyed her special day...so I guess that, for those of us who helped set it up, "mission accomplished."
If I live to be 100, that's how I want to end MY party...with a huge fireworks extravaganza! [Not much chance it'll happen...but if it does, you've been warned...]
