Dave. The agriomatiks are virtually bullet proof. We had three tractors so equipped. One 430 (narrow tread orchard version) was worked to death, the agriomatik survived. The other 430 was worked to death too, including heavy use of the agriomatik: that agriomatik survived too :-) Our 453 (1972) did not see much mercy either but is still going strong. The agriomatik is a wet multidisk friction clutch. The clutch can be adjusted for wear from the outside of the transmission (takes a wrench, a punch and a hammer; in the field again in 10 minutes). Test the agriomatik clutch as you would test a standard clutch. If it doesn't slip under load or shudder while engaging, you're good to go.
I think you will have a hard time finding a 423 with standard transmission w/ 8 forward and 2 reverse gears. I've never seen one, so I cannot comment on their durability. HTH, Hendrik
