The news reported six heat related deaths last week, 9 for the year and 4 more deaths are expected to be ruled heat related in the next few days. Terrible.
The current record number of 100+ consecutive days is 42. The forecast for today is 108. This will be day 32 of 100+ temps with no relief forecast for the entire month. There"s little doubt that we will set a new record for the number of consecutive days over 100. With August typically the hottest month, its very probable that its going to get worse.
Talked to my sister who lives in St. Jo, Tx, (northwest of Dallas). It was 112 there yesterday.
I started using a soaker hose around the foundation of our house the first part of June. It runs 24/7. My sister told me she"s seen news reports of slab foundations literally breaking in half.
I"ve heard news reports of pets succumbing to the heat so yesterday when I got home, I wet our two dogs down. I also wet the holes they have dug so the ground is cooler. Today I plan on putting a fan in the garage to help them stay cool. Since the horses are at the farm and I"m in Dallas, there"s nothing I can do to help them.
Even though there are a couple of tropical depressions forming, the high pressure ridge causing the heat will steer them east or south of us.
