It's illegal to rifle hunt in southern Michigan, but that's because of the population density. I can't believe that anyone with a brain would advocate using a 30'06 in a populated area. I used to rifle hunt near rose city, in the northern lower penisula. In any case cheap and hunting is pretty much a dead idea. The best hunting is all on private land. Hunting on state land can be scary, too many folks out there. I have a couple of friends that gave up hunting due to safety concerns. My neighbor owns 1100 acres. They are charging $900 per for hunting this year, but this includes bow & gun hunting. I think in another generation, hunting will be like europe - only for the wealthy.
