Sounds like a good plan. When I was young, we always had a pair of border collies on the farm.
They are on the high strung side, but very intelligent. They love to be put to work, and if you spend time with them, they are very loyal and obediant dogs.
We had a female that was a good herder, and a male that was worthless for moving cattle, but would watch every gate on the farm at once. He was awesome, when you could haul manure all day and never have to shut a gate.
