If you don't what on star just let them know and they will turn it off. It needs to stay in the truck because the other modules are programed to see it on wake up. When on star deactavtes it send a message to the other modules. If you remove it, it will cause problems in the vech. down the road. Depending on year it may stop the vech. from starting. On star will not waste time on none subscribers. If you leave it in the vech. you get the advanage to use it for emrgencys, just like all old cell phones can call 911. David
