They were called New Land plows, for a reason, they were used to break newly cleared land. They could cut through a 3" root, yet roll over a newly discovered rock. I have a field full of rocks, that range in size from 2" igneous, to 3' sandstone, I think they call it glacial till, the disc plow is the only plow that is able to work it!
