My dad hated thieves. But there was only once that he let someone get away with it. a fellow would come by every so often and take meat from our freezer, not much, but a couple of packs (the freezer was outside.)

dad had seen him several times, I asked him if he was going to put a lock on it. he said " No Son, if a man needs to steal food, he needs it worse than we do, let him have it"

A few weeks after that, dad took some groceries over there, and left them on the front porch. the poor guy was so embarrassed, that he never came again to raid our freezer.
