NO WAY IN THE WORLD it costs that much to overhaul one! Those kits are available from A@I for about $2800 complete. Sleeves,pistons,bearings,gaskets,the works. I overhauled mine 2 years ago,got the parts from Maibach,got the 4 ring high compression pistons and all,cost me just over $1800. Sounds to me like you're just trying to push somebody toward a Deere.

While I love straightening sheet metal, cleaning, and painting old tractors, I use every excuse to avoid working on the on the electrics. I find the whole process sheer mystery.
