Texasmark1 I will respectfully disagree with you on your assumption. I have been around tractors of all makes for many years. The big reason to hook two six volt batteries in series is the total cold cranking amps is much higher than two twelve volt batteries hooked in parallel. If you look at the minutes of reserve it is much higher.
Most of the John Deere utility tractors came from Germany with two 12v batteries in parallel. ( older than the 6000 series) They where a problem when cold weather starting was needed. All of the dealerships I worked at switched them over to two 6v batteries in series. They would crank much faster in cold weather.
The newer John Deere tractors come 12 volt in parallel. We are always fighting connections to keep both batteries charging and providing equal load.
