Quoting Removed, click Modern View to see"Three strands of wire".. working on several year old memory here, but I believe 3 strands means that among the 50, that they are not all 50 in series, but rather some subset of 50 are in series....perhaps 5 sets (10 bulbs in each). I.e., 5 groups of 10 in series and the 5 groups are in parallel. So, in this case, if 10 are out, you only need to check those 10, not all 50.
