Jason,I'm sorry to hear of your wife's frightening diagnosis. My wife has had reumatoid arthritis since her 30's. She's now 65. Despite that, she enjoyed a very successful career as a nurse and raised 3 daughters (I helped a little!). My point is, don't despair. Yes, it's a serious disease, but there have been vast advances made in its treatment. And, every case is different. My advice is to get her to a reumatologist ASAP. Do not waste valuable time with the local general practitioner. The modern drugs (so-called "biologics"), for example Remicade, Humira, and others, while expensive seem to be very effective--at least that has been my wife's experience. And yes, these have potentially serious side-effects; all drugs do. Another reason she should be under the care of a specialist. My best wishes to you both.

While I love straightening sheet metal, cleaning, and painting old tractors, I use every excuse to avoid working on the on the electrics. I find the whole process sheer mystery. I have picked up and attempted to read every auto and farm electrics book with no improvement in the situation. They all seem to start with a chapter entitled "Theory of Electricity".
