Haven't had Ford lately, but with what Dodge and Chev bring to the table currently I don't know why one has to use a 3/4 unless it's brakes. I had 3 Dodges lately, a old design 360, the new design 4.7 and the 5.7 Hemi. All would pull whatever I had on the lot and then some. Got roughly 15 mph all around mileage for me and the 4.7 with the tow button and 6 speed auto will impress you.
Currently in Chev after a long dry spell. Seems the Feds cleaned up their act for them and they really surprised me to the point that I bought the 1500 (6800 GVW and that's with the soft suspension....for us old folks) Silverado over going back to Dodge this time....dealer was closer is how I even thought about Chev.
It has the 4.8 or 9 can't remember and it is a standard push rod machine. Has the 4 speed auto with the tow hall electronic shift. Just as the Dodge 4.7 can do, it does everything I want and when you put the pedal on the metal, hang on. For me all around is a hard 16+ (E10) which is not bad for a full size 4 door truck.
So, there are a lot of good trucks out there and they "ain't what they used to be".
