Just purchased a water sensor alarm from Harbor freight for $8.55 after using a 20% coupon. Seems to work well. Put sensor in water and alarm goes off. I put the sensor in the plastic tub that washer is in. If washer springs a leak, I'll know it.
However, what if the alarm goes off and I'm not home? Got me to thinking, a dangerous thing I've told, can the alarm be modified to turn the power off to the washer? Better yet, if the alarm detects water in the basement, is there a water sensor alarm on the market that will also turn the well pump off and need manually reset?
Last winter my sister was in Florida, a pipe froze and broke. 3 weeks later someone discovered she had a major water leak in her house. Extensive damage.
