Several things. 1) I would not use a test light to hunt for the wires. You can fry things not meant to have that high of current on them. Use a Volt/Ohm meter, you can get cheap ones for less than ten dollars. Also a probe hole in the insulation will let the wire corrode through. 2) I would find out if the Dodge Nitro used CAN bus electrical systems. I just wired a friends flat bed on a Ford 450 truck and we had to buy a adapter harness for hooking up trailers lights. The factory tail lights would not carry the current for a trailer.
