Diesel used to be real green and oily. Now its getting to look more and more like gas. Sometimes I have trouble telling them apart. My dad was career military. He said they were taught in a pinch they could mix gasoline and motor oil and use it for diesel in their trucks. I think your tractor will probably be OK since it was caught.
