What it's all about is that there is a HUGE problem with certain unscrupulous folks making copies of trade marked and copy-rited books, repair manuals, videos and music, and selling those illegal, pirated copys on the internet. This means that the person who actually wrote the music, and the person who actually made the recording, as well as the recording companies and book publishers are loosing large sums of money because their products are being stolen right out from under their noses.
The legislation being proposed would give the government the ability to turn out the lights and immediately shut down ANY website that has illegal, pirated copies for sale on that website. ANY website.
The problem with that though is that it gives total control of the internet to the government, and we ALL know how THAT is going to work out, so yes, you do need to contact your senators and congress people and ask them to defeat that bill. There are OTHER ways of policing the rip-off artists, and a few of those methods are already being implemented.
