"This just in"- Seattle TV saying 195,000 people in that area are without power now- some may not be back on for several days.
My daughter in rural Maple Valley is right in the middle of it- but she's lodged in a hotel next to Sea-Tac airport, where she works. Alaska Airlines puts up a bunch of their folks at hotels during these situations, because they need people to man the counters. Haul them back and forth, bring food, etc. They prefer folks who don't mind working 12 to 16 hours a day- daughter is all for that- mucho overtime. Even though dealing with the public when you have a lot of flight cancellations is not a real picnic.
Big problem for the majority of the folks (like Old's daughter, probably) is no auxilliary heat. Folks in town just have no choice but to go somewhere else, especially if they have kids. This is rare enough around here that most people don't have any backup systems like you guys who expect it every winter.
