Sounds exactly what happened to my "D" several years ago. Turned out the gear was spinning on the shaft on the oil pump. I shut it down when first started sounding different. Only dammage was the bearings not the crank. Found bearings with my first ever visit to this site. It was sveral years before I got around to fixing it so it would not start because of old gas plugging carb. It will run if you keep choke closed but no power. Got to take that apart sometime.
