Mine went up over 100% too. Seems the state has decided that all open land is cropland and is based on the price of corn, wheat, and soybeans. This includes swamp land and permanent pasture - any open land. I crop less than 10% of my land, but pay the high taxes on all of it. Taxes are based on soil type and a lot of mine are poorer soils and mine only went up a little over $2000 this year. One fellow I know with good soil went up over 400% and was told another fellows taxes went up over $7000 on less than 200 acres. Our schools will benefit, but the farmers will pay dearly!
