My Niece is the manager of a Subway in town (pop 15,000). She said they get a fake bill about once a month. No, you don't get them back under any circumstance and you get to talk to the local police before you leave.
On the bright side, her personal policy is, you get your meal for free as long as you are cooperative and polite with the store help.... it's no more their fault for finding it as yours for trying to use it.
