I have milled alot of wood with the grandberg alaskan mill. You need a powerful saw, at least 90cc. I use a husky 394-XP that is 94 cc. The Stihl 120 or the Husky 3010 would be better. Its rough, hard work and slow. Plan on most of a saturday to mill up one large hardwood log. On the upside you can have alot of free logs in any dimension you want. Drying is slow and you will lose alot to cracking.
A small bandsaw mill is much better, but if you have a big saw them Alsakan jig is cheap.
