I just bought a new-old-stock government surplus magneto. It's a Slick model #56. It was used for military Continental engines and I'm hoping to stick it on my Oliver HG with the Hercules IXB-3 engine.
I'm wondering down the road if any parts are available? I know that Slick used to make the magnetos for Case tractors and parts are scarce for those things. Slick still makes very expensive mags for light aircraft but I find no info on the Slick #56 mag.
My HG has a Fairbanks Morse FMJ on it now and I assume the coil is going bad. It will run for 2-3 hours and then skip, and die. Once cool will run for 2-3 hours again. I could buy a new coil (and will) but wish to avoid down-time. I'm figuring on installing this Slick mag and then fixing the FMJ mag for a spare.
One other related question. I have a Wico battery distributor - made to take the place of a flange-mount, tang-drive magneto. Model XB4B. I can't find listings for parts anywhere. Maybe it shares some parts with Wico magnetos - but I'd like to know for sure.

This same package applies to any hydraulic system from the largest bulldozer to the oldest and smallest tractor. This short series will take a look at the basic layout of a simple hydraul
