When I was stationed in Mannhiem in the early '80's, I lived out in a nice apartment downtown near the river. Exchange rate was 4DM per 1USD at the time. My landlords owned a shock aborber business and were good people. Used to invite me over to watch Boris Becker of their home country beat whoever our best American tennis players were, at tennis. I didn't like tennis, but loved Eichbaum Bier made in Mannhiem, particularly their Export or Dopplebach. They'd stoke me up on Biers, and I'd supply and cook steaks from the PX on thier grill, and keep them supplied in coffee, which I didn't drink. And then I'd go out night clubbing for some of the hottest women in the world, German chicks. Which were my favorite steaks? Beats me, I liked it all. "Her Ober, verses der slose und der hot chicks on der stassen bon liene, und ein mor bier bitte, and please don't call the polizei on me again because I'm tired of them beating me up".
You know? Looking back on my years, I have always been a blessed person. I'm not preaching religion to anyone, so don't anyone think for a second that I am. At the age of 52, I can honestly say that there are many that have had it better than me, but on the other hand, I've done ok. I could have stayed in Germany, had the opportunity. A company, ITT, wanted me to stay there as a civilian and repair microwave radios. I was going to, but after I ETS'd, I came home for a month, and never went back. Germany was a nice place with nice people, and some of the world's hottest chicks. Grade-A prime cut. I aint jokin.
