NO The resistance of the short piece of wire, be it 10 or even 18, as compared to the sending unit resistance (maybe 30 to over 100 ohms???) is almost negligible so either will work and I doubt you could ever see any difference in the level indication regardless
Or should I buy a spool of 18 gauge wire?
If I were buying a spool of wired for general purpose hook up, Id go ahead and buy 16 or 14. Id buy stranded of course for better vibration withstand.
