The lever by your left heel sticking up through the platform (on early models) is the tow disconnect. Yes it will stop all movement as it disconnects the transmission from the differential. The lever latches in the slot in the platform to hold in position. Lever to rear is connected for driving. Late models have a different lever underneath the platform that does the same thing.
