The unions did a lot of good back when collective bargaining was exactly that: representatives of both labor and management sat down and calmly negotiated an agreement that was palatable to both sides.
Lately, however, too many union tactics have degenerated into union goons using thug tactics to extort concessions from employers with no thought of whether the employer can afford the concessions. I suspect that when a company, Vise Grips, for example, suddenly sends all manufacturing facilities off-shore there is a lot more to it than simply greed on the part of the manufacturer, and a lot more to it than the public ever learns.
I simply used Vise Grips as an examply, I have no idea offhand if they were a union plant. Everyone complains about all of the products that are now manufactured overseas, but it's entirely possible that, at least in some cases, it was the only way the company could survive because of union demands here in the States.
I have no problem with unions, IF, and this is a heckuva big "if", they adhere to the original intent of rational collective bargaining. Too often, however, unrealistic union demands force a company to simply bail out.
