I've heard of dentures being anchored in place using implanted pins in the lower jaw. The dentures snap onto the pins and are secured by the pins from moving while eating or talking. The tongue in the lower jaw is in the way of using a continuous plate across the mouth like the upper dentures so pins are used for anchoring.
