snakes in a lake often become conditioned to fishermen.the reason is because of the bait and captive fish on a stringer etc.they just become used to a easy meal.they know most folks throw dead minnows away or have fish.dont think for a instant all snakes will run from you though,most will but stomping your feet waving your arms etc often triggers a defensive bite.also remember a snake doesnt have to be poisonous to kill you,their saliva can be just as deadly if you have a severe infection from it.best bet is to simply leave them be,but if you do have this problem again, the way to stop it is to keep your fish and bait in a cooler.fish are better eating anyway if you throw them on ice as soon as caught.once the snake finds no meal he will move off and bother the next guy.
