I'm not a septic expert by any means, but I'd say your leach field is working. However, that doesn't necessarily mean you shouldn't have the septic tank pumped. The septic tank collects all solids. Organic compound are broken down, but minerals (say dirt from washing your hands) settles into the bottom of the tank, and will begin to build up. If you let it fill up, that dirt then goes into your leach field, and will begin to plug it up. That's my take at least. David
