Yes, we are increasing domestic production dramatically- but in spite of the guvment, not because of it! As the NPR article points out, its all on private land, which Uncle Sam can do little to block. There's lots of oil on public lands, which could be obtained without significant environmental threat (as shown by the North Slope in Alaska), but it is still being locked up by the guvment.
The article also points out that we could get all the rest of our needs from Canada- but again, the Keystone pipeline is needed to do that, and the guvment stonewalls that, too.
I sure hope we can get new leadership in this country before we all start freezing in the dark . . .
