George here is a Stihl electric chain saw. I have two different friends that have this model to cut the poles in pole barns. They like them and say that they work well. The one fellow has cut small fire wood with his and said it worked fine. They are not much cheaper than a gas saw. They will be right around $500.
The light cheap Remington and Echo electric chain saws are pure junk. I was given a New Remington as a gift. It set on a shelf in the shop for almost three years. One day I needed some wood blocks cut and thought I would give it a try. Filled it with bar oil and made three cuts in a pine 6 x 6 and the drive gears stripped. I pitched it into the junk wagon.
I am watching for a good one myself just to use around the shop/house/barns.
For a portable generator I have a Honda EU3000. I love it. It is not cheap but it works great and it is light and quite. Again you get what you pay for.
