I would stick with the 16" bar. What size saw is it? My 55-60cc saws all have 16" bars on them, as I prefer over-sized engine to bar, as apposed to under-sized engine to bar.
Does the have a spur or rim on it? Might want to replace the rim. If you are going from a .325 to a 3/8 chain, you will need to replace the rim. The bar and chain need to match the gauge correctly either: .050, .058 or .063. Yours is probably .050 or .063.
You don't need to buy a Stihl B&C either. Oregon B&C's work fine as well.
