I don't know the official date but The Smoky Mountains usually peak between Oct. 20 and Nov. 15 with the first week of Nov. being the safest bet. For the last 20 something years I have been there the first week of Nov. on business and it is really pretty. I think the date varies depending on the weather, I have seen it warm (80's and sunny) and I have seen it cold (20's and snow) in early November. Of course the brightness of the colors depend on the weather leading up to then and it has been very dry this year so I would guess that the colors might be somewhat muted.
