I have read this over before plus have studied alcohol as fuel for many years.I have seen some problems with bad gas long before ethanol came into use.Methanol is destructive to zinc based castings .It is still used in gas line anti freeze. When Maine started using E10 I saw 2 pallets of gas line antifreeze at Sams Club .Didnt need it with E10 gas but it was still in use. Some methanol dry gas left in a chain saw tank raised hugh blisters in the metal. My garden tiller has a gasket in the gas in the gas cap that is swollen from E10 use.If methanol is passed off as ethanol and added to gasoline there will be problems.I see some who come to defense of ethanol when the subject come up.Same thing happened when I had a problem when I added a small amount of MMO to the gas in my Ford tractor. The tank valve became very hard to open and close. It took a year to ease up and now the is no ring left.I had the tractor for 20 years with no problems turning the valve by hand. Many came on defending MMO saying I was crazy.MMO contains 27% solvent so I question its use in a crank case.Ive found that prolonged idling of my tractor engine can gas foul the spark plugs. The tractor had new H10 plugs when I bought it.Drove it 15 miles home, ran fine. Then it started fouling spark plugs. Some new H12s fixed the problem. There was a lot of problems with snow mobile engines failing when E10 came into use here.Sticking valves are common with E10.I think E10 interfers with lubrication. My friend did experiments on phase seperation but never got any positive results.I avoid using the words never and always in discussions because things I thought were gospel have been proven wrong.Henry Ford was interested in alcohol as a motor fuel. The 28 and 29 Model As had a cast iron sediment bowl and carberator plus a main jet that could be adjusted from inside the car.Gasoline selling at 10 cents per gallon pushed alcohol fuel aside.

Today's Featured Article - Uncle Cecil's Super A Lives Again - by Mike Purcell. A week or so out of most of my childhood summers was often spent with my Uncle Cecil and Aunt Sissie in the small East Texas town of Maydelle on their 80 acre farm. Some of my fondest memories of these visits are those of learning to drive a tractor at the helm of Uncle Cecil’s 1948 Farmall Super A. Uncle Cecil was the second owner of this wonderful little tractor, but it was almost as though he had adopted an infant. The original owner was a man from Minnesota who bought her from a local dea ... [Read Article]
