Buy a 12 gauge. Shells are as cheap or cheaper than 20 gauge. More choice of shells in 12 gauge. A typical load in 20 gauge is 1 ounce of shot, You can buy 1 ounce in 12 gauge. If you ever got into reloading 12 gauge can be down loaded to 3/4 or 7/8 ounce of shot. So a 12 gauge with a little more weight can be softer shooting than a 20 gauge. Buy a 12 gauge for a more universal gun.
