Let me guess... The moving company has a relative on the council that decided this would be money well spent to move their cherished tree. Or maybe there was a squirrels nest or bats living in the thing so PETA wouldn't allow it to be cut down?
All that to widen a road? Couldn't squeeze an extra lane in really?
What a waste of taxpayer dollars.
Sure... It was a magnificent tree. Take a few pictures and cut it down. Maybe make a nice table or mantle for some local historic house or something and keep a picture of the donor tree on top of it... But to move that thing was a monumental waste of money.
Those movers probably get a lot of good laughs when they tell that story. "...And then all the towns people came with tears of joy in their eyes and gave the big tree a great big hug!"
Oh well... Hope the tree makes it after all that. Really doubt it... but let's hope so.
