That's unusual for a Bassett, most of ours are kind of clannish and don't want much to do with folks outside their pack. Most of my Bassetts we didn't/ don't dare leave off the leash and out of sight for too long, they'll smell something interesting and two hours later look up and wonder where the heck they are.
