"Decent jack" is an oxymoron. I always carried an old tripod screw jack in my work truck. That was before painted/plastic bumpers, of course.
One day I found a young lady and her preschool son alongside the road with a flat tire. Stopped to help her change it. It was about the worst looking tire I'd ever seen in use. I mildly scolded her about the trashy tire, and she said she was on the way to the tire shop for a new set. Car was on a rather steep shoulder, and there wasn't a level spot in sight, so she helped me hold the car from sliding sideways while I got the spare mounted. After we got the car back on the ground, she discovered that her son had locked the doors and her keys were in the switch. We tried everything to get the kid to unlock the door. No luck. Then he started crying and announced that he had to potty. Things went downhill pretty fast. We somehow got a door open, and when I left, she was taking him to the woods to clean him up. Car needed a cleaning, too. . .
