Countries like Venezula and Saudi Arabia don't allow free market forces to operate, they subsidize oil to keep prices low within their own borders. We could do that here too, except the that the oil companies have a lot of influence in D.C., and we believe in free markets even, when we have to compete in markets that are anything but free...
