Ya know, I realize not everyone lives near and knows Amish. And I realize not everyone can look at something they don't understand and make sense of it. Amish are just people, pretty decent people for the most part. Each church has it's own rules that they set up in an effort to keep the farms going and families together and to live within Biblical principles. It's about that simple. We have one of the strictest sects here and some stuff does make little sense- flash lights limited to 2 cells for instance. Still, I figure that's their business and not mine. I know for a fact they can't understand why anyone would put $40K or more into a pickup truck or let their wives and daughters dress like tramps, cover their bodies in tattoos, allow their kids to be rude and abusive or why anyone would collect old tractors. That's to say nothing of killing off babies int he womb at the rate of almost 2 million a year. But I also know they figure it's none of their business. Makes sense to me.
