I`ll give you a perfect example of why unions aren't the "answer" to anything. Anyone here old enough to remember pre 9/11 remembers when the airports used private security screeners. After 9/11 we were told we had to have Federally employed TSA agents, union workers of course, because the private outfits weren't good enough. Look at the head lines any day of the week and tell me the TSA is doing a better job in any way, shape or form.
Being union doesn't mean you are a lazy bum with no work ethic, but being union does mean the guys like that get protected. It means the union will always, always, ALWAYS demand a higher wage, even if the guys are doing fine. It means good workers get turned away because they won't knuckle under to the union. Collective bargaining is one thing, becoming extortion artists is another.
