I would add,if you hit the starter on an engine with liquid filled cylinders and spark plugs in place,it can bend/break a rod because liquid does not compress. I suggest to never leave plugs in while attempting to rotate engine because in addition to risk of destroying a rod or worse,why make it harder than nessary to turn the enginge against compression. Rather than starter or pipe wrenchs and cheater bars,rock the tractor while in gear. It's fairly easy to wiggle rotating assembly by grabing a rear tire tread.
