My mother had a friend that worked in the office of a aircraft plant in ww2. The elastic in those days was bad because all the rubber went to the military. She was riding the bus to work and was standing up holding one of the straps from the roof as the bus was full. They wore dresses in the office. She felt her undies fall down and she looked down and kicked them under the lady next to her with her toe. She pointed down and asked the lady are those yours? The lady said oh my goodness ond reached down and put them on. my mothers friend said she always wondered what the lady thought when she got home and had on two pair.
