The correct gun for her/you/anybody is the one they are willing to shoot and get proficient with. Start off with a .22. No recoil and easy to shoot. Then work her up to the biggest caliber that doesn't hurt. If it hurts shooter will flinch and never hit anything. Especially under stress.
Long ago talking with a WW2 vet the conversation was on stopping power. He had used 30.06 and .45 in defense of his life. His opinion was that the rifle stopped. The .45 did not. What he did say was the .45 got the enemy thinking about something else other than doing him harm.
ANY gun will get 99% of the coward criminals out there thinking about something else, like being somewhere else, once they see it let alone hear it go off.
The other 1% will have the drop on you and you never had a chance.
